One song can spark a moment.
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest.
One bird can herald spring.
One smile begins a friendship;
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea.
One word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation.
One sunbeam lights a room;
One candle wipes out darkness.
One laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey.
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise our spirits;
One touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom;
One heart can know what's true.
One life can make the difference...
That difference starts with you.

"The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion
and the will to help others." -Albert Schweitzer
Compassion is defined as a "deep awareness of another's suffering coupled with the wish to relieve it." At the very core of our humanity is shared experience. If you know what it's like to be hurt, then you can imagine the pain of another. Similarly, if you block out your own hurt, you may be quicker to block out others as well.
Part of creating inner happiness involves making a regular practice of feeling, showing, and acting out of compassion. Genuine compassion doesn't call attention to itself; it infuses all you do with a loving awareness of others. You'll fine tune your compassion by becoming more aware of it in you and in your life. And developing a compassionate attitude is like working a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it becomes.
